Harbour Lights Photo Wins Competition and will Grace National Magazine Cover
30 August, 2006
A photograph of the Harbour Lights tree taken for the Saint John Port Authority by local award-winning photographer Martin Flewwelling has won a national competition. The winning photograph submitted by Tourism Saint John depicts the Harbour Lights tree from its base looking skyward to the star.

“The honour of this award speaks more to the hard work of those who carry out the fund-raising campaign,” stated Mr. Flewwelling upon learning of the award. “I was simply blessed as a photographer with beautiful material to capture on film.”

The image will grace the December 2006 cover of Municipal World magazine, the oldest continuously published monthly municipal magazine in the world with a readership of over 40,000. Founded in 1891, the magazine is the most influential magazine in Canada's municipal sector and is devoted to promoting effective municipal government.

Harbour Lights is an annual joint fundraising project of CBC Radio One – Information Morning Saint John and the Saint John Port Authority.

“The Port Authority was pleased to learn that the photograph of this significant landmark and community initiative will receive high profile in this magazine. The Harbour Lights campaign is a true community-driven initiative and the Port community is proud to be involved with it each year,” stated Captain Alwyn G. Soppitt, President & CEO of the Saint John Port Authority.

In 2006, the annual Harbour Lights campaign will celebrate its tenth anniversary and has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for food banks from Sussex to St. Stephen thanks to generous contributions from both individuals and businesses in the region.
