SAINT JOHN, NB--- At the midway point of a record cruise season, the Saint John Port Authority will be welcoming our Millionth Cruise Passenger this Wednesday, August 6th. The honoured passenger will be arriving aboard the Carnival Victory.
“It is a happy coincidence that this achievement would be reached during a record season that will see 81 cruise ships visit the Port of Saint John,” said Betty MacMillan, Manager, Business development for the Saint John Port Authority.
Betty added, “One million passengers is a significant accomplishment for the Port of Saint John and with the size of the vessels today and the popularity of the Bay of Fundy as a cruise destination we are confident that it won't take 20 years to reach 2 million.”
The soon to be pleasantly surprised one millionth visitor will be our VIP guest on a private guided tour of Saint John and surrounding areas. Merchants in and around Saint John have been generous in making this recognition a rewarding one for our millionth guest with a basket of gifts which will highlight this New Brunswick experience. We will also be bringing the lucky recipient back to New Brunswick for a return three-day visit with accommodations provided by the Delta Brunswick Hotel. Irving Oil will be providing a gas card worth $500 so the recipient can travel the area.
“We’ve come a long way since the first ship called on Saint John in 1989. The 187,000 passengers that will visit the Port City this season is a testimonial to the efforts of our award-winning Meet and Greet Committee, the Port of Saint John and the always welcoming people of Saint John,” said Captain Al Soppitt, President and CEO of the Saint John Port Authority. “As our second biggest revenue generator for the Saint John Port Authority, the cruise industry has established itself as an important contributor to Saint John’s tourism fortunes.
